6 Showcase State What is it: A statewide commitment, and corresponding program, for all levels of government and the private sector to work together using their human and financial resources to prepare for, minimize and prevent natural disaster impacts.

7 Why: A disaster-resistant and –resilient state is one that: helps localities prevent and minimize human, property and economic losses, and rapidly recover from a disaster, with less public and private assistance – or – ensure community sustainability Showcase State

8 How: A Governor’s Executive Order promotes - Risk reduction by a coalition of public/private partners –Conduct land use planning –Adopt and enforce model codes –Encourage disaster-resistant construction, and retrofit existing home safety –Ensure consumer awareness & education Showcase State
