5 How to Have your Classroom Ready  The work is ready- The desks, books papers, assignments, and materials are ready when the bell rings.  The room is ready- The classroom has a positive environment that is work-oriented.  The Teacher is ready- The teacher has a warm, positive attitude and has positive expectations that all students will succeed. Have your classroom ready, every single day, especially the first days of school

6 How to Introduce Yourself to your Class  Post a Sign on your door  Your Name  Room Number  Section or period  Grade Level or subject  An appropriate welcome or greeting  Stand at the door on the first day of school. Have a smile on your face!  As the students stand there to see if your are the right teacher- Welcome them to the new school year!  Check each student’s registration card.  After you greet a student they should see the same information that was on the door displayed in the room.

7 How to Arrange and Assign Seating  The teacher is present in the room or at the door when the students arrive.  Assign seating to everyone upon entering the room.  Age, Height, Alphabetical Order, Peer-group tutoring, Paired Problem Solving, Challenging Students at the front of the room.  Has an assignment on each desk ready for the students.

8 How to Start Class Effectively  Have an assignment ready.  Students know where to find the assignment.  They know why they are to do the assignment. Your very first priority when the class starts is to get the students to work.

9 How to Have an Effective Discipline Plan  Rules: What the student is expected to follow.  Consequences: What the student encounters if a rule is broken.  Rewards: What the student receives for appropriate behavior. If you do not have a plan, then you are planning to fail.

10 How to Teach Students to Follow Classroom Procedures  Teach- State, explain, model, and demonstrate the procedure.  Rehearse- Rehearse and practice the procedure under your supervision.  Reinforce- Reteach, Rehearse, Practice, and reinforce the classroom procedure until it becomes a student habit or routine.
