2 There is a place where the sky settles the sea across the earth like a cool blanket, where clouds gather in the verdant valley, and coastal winds whisper to the vines, ripening them slowly and exquisitely to produce fruit with the lush character and complexity of its surroundings. This mystic place is Monterey County, the only coastal appellation capable of creating Cloudfall.

4 The Thermal Rainbow Nature’s Natural Air Conditioning The Thermal Rainbow™ influences the temperatures and subsequent varietal selection throughout Monterey Wine Country. In the early morning, the entire region is covered by a thick marine layer producing cool mid-50°F temperatures. As the sun rises, the valley starts to warm. The heat burns off the fog and begins the slow rise in temperature at the southern end of the county. The heat generated from the sun forces the warm air to rise and creates a low pressure effect. Cool air off the ocean is drawn and funneled through the Gabilan and Santa Lucia mountain ranges, moving down the valley with increasing force as the day progresses. The ocean air acts as a natural air conditioning system that mitigates the rise in temperature from north to south and extends the growing season, allowing for slow, gentle ripening.

5 Vineyard Selections Cloudfall is inspired by nature and blended beautifully to complement her bounty. All vineyards are hand selected by our winemaker to enhance the blends with Monterey’s natural, delicate ecosystem. Extended pod maturation gives these grapes the quintessential complexity needed to achieve the wines’ delectable flavor profiles. Chardonnay is sourced from the Scheid Vineyard, known for its foggy mornings and cool afternoon winds. The spring and summer coastal fog rolls into the region in the evening and persists until mid-morning the next day, resulting in a longer growing season with intense varietal characters and balanced acidity. In this cool growing climate, yields are low. Known for elegant, layered wines of delicacy and balance, it is the ideal spot for ultra-premium Chardonnay. Cloudfall Chardonnay displays a flinty, mineral character, revealing a very Burgundian flavor profile. 2015 CLOUDFALL CHARDONNAY – SCHEID VINEYARD IN MESA DEL RIO WEST Cloudfall Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from the warmer southern end of Monterey County. Here fruit grows on a south-facing slope of the Monterey Mountains, developing vibrant character elegantly balanced with the acidity representative of coastal growing regions. Cloudfall Pinot Noir has flavors of bright blueberry and dark cherry with subtle notes of watermelon. 2015 CLOUDFALL PINOT NOIR – SWEETWATER VINEYARD 2015 CLOUDFALL SAUVIGNON BLANC – SCHEID VINEYARD IN SAN LUCAS AVA Cloudfall Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow in the San Lucas appellation with its rolling hills and beautiful vistas. The region is characterized by foggy mornings, warm days and cool bay winds in the late afternoon. Summer temperatures often fluctuate as much as 40 degrees from day to night, extending the growing season and giving the fruit time to develop full body and flavor. The soil is looser and well-drained, with shale and various sizes of sandstone that allow for deep root penetration, producing grapes that are brighter and fruitier. Cloudfall Sauvignon Blanc is fruit-forward and softly-textured, the hallmark of wine from this region.

6 Winemaker & Culinary Influence Inspired by Culinary & Blended to Perfection - Cloudfall wines are artfully crafted to be the perfect pairing choice for fresh California cuisine. The wines are developed through a unique collaboration between our winemaker, Christine Marchi, and our Executive Chef, James Houghton. With nearly two decades of culinary experience, James Houghton knows how to create award-winning meals. As Executive Chef for Trinchero Family Estates, he’s constantly exploring the dynamics of food and wine, innovating exquisite pairings that elevate the dining experience. James collaborates with viticulturists and winemakers at the state-of-the-art Trinchero culinary center, testing and developing recipes and blends that showcase both food and wine. This innovative approach to winemaking is epicurean-focused and consumer-based, providing chefs and diners with divinely drinkable wines that compliment every creation and please every palate. A graduate of the New England Culinary Institute, James worked under Chef Gilbert Pepin at The Regatta on Cape Cod and Chef Hiro Sone at the esteemed Restaurant Terra in Saint Helena. He spent several years at the Pan-Asian sensation Brix Restaurant in Yountville with opening Chef Tod Kawachi. In 2002, he was named Rising Star Chef of the Year at The Napa Valley Mustard Festival. James also holds a Certified Specialist of Wine accreditation from the Society of Wine Educators. With an Italian mother and Polish father, food has always been a central part of winemaker Christine Marchi’s life. “We used to have eclectic family dinners,” she says. “The menu always came first and then we’d select the perfect wines to compliment the meal. I remember tagging along to the wine store with my mom. I was too young to drink, but I noticed her careful deliberation and understood from an early age how important wine is to food.” This sensibility is inherent in every bottle of Cloudfall. Christine applied her love of sharing a meal, her advanced skills in sensory evaluation, and keen understanding of coastal growing regions to create a food-inspired collection that speaks to the palate and of place. Her intuition for the interplay between flavor, texture, and intensity in both food and wine results in blends that are harmoniously drinkable. Along with Cloudfall, Christine has spent years crafting wines from various vineyards in world-class growing regions, including notable stints with Cumulus Wines in Australia, Villa Maria Estates in Marlborough, New Zealand, Kendall Jackson in Sonoma, and Rutherford Hill and Beringer in Napa Valley. In this cool growing climate, yields are low. Known for elegant, layered wines of delicacy and balance, it is the ideal spot for ultra-premium Chardonnay. Winemaking The 2015 Cloudfall Chardonnay was fermented with Alchemy yeast and underwent partial malolactic fermentation in order to intensify tart fruity aromas, enhance the mouthfeel and maintain bright acidity. The wine was aged on French and American oak, which impart complex, integrated notes of toasted oak, herbal spice and clove. Also aged sur lie for increased richness along the palate. Winemaker Notes Ripe pineapple delicately intertwines citrus and green apple aromas. Elegantly layered, this wine is rich on the palate with balanced flavors of bright fruit and delectable brioche with hints of toasted almonds and spice. The lush, velvety mouthfeel gently fades with a soft lingering finish.
