2. Overview of Ethical Issues in the Case Two ethical issues are brought to light in the case: –Ronnie violated Section 1.06 of the NASW Code of Ethics regarding dual relationships. –Suzette violated Section 2.01 of the NASW Code of Ethics regarding respect for colleagues. Both issues have relevance for effective social work practice and are explored in more detail in this presentation.

3. Dual Relationships Dual relationships arise whenever a professional assumes a second role with the (Reamer, 2003). Ronnie may have thought that she was simply providing an extension of social work support. –e.g., compassion, charity, caring Ronnie must be made aware of boundaries in social work practice to ensure that dual relationships do not develop.

4. Respect for Colleagues Suzette demonstrated disrespect for Ronnie by writing negative and disparaging comments in her evaluation. Supervisors must provide support to nurture supervisees. Suzette’s supervisor needs to intervene to ensure that Suzette respects her colleagues and does not engage in such behavior in the future.

5. Questions to Consider What could Ronnie have done differently to help her client without developing a dual relationship? What action should Suzette have taken to provide Ronnie with the correct support to improve practice?
