Sentence Fragments – When you proofread out loud… can you hear a fragment?

What is a sentence? A sentence has two characteristics: 1. It has a subject and a verb. 2. It is independent or complete.

What is a Fragment? If either the subject or the verb or both are missing, the result is an error called a sentence fragment.

Kinds of Fragments A group of words that starts with a fanboys conjunction is a fragment. Ex. And to the Cubs game at the end of the week. So the first time he ever tried to skydive. But not at the end of the day.

What are the 2 main ways to fix a fragment? Attach the fragment to a sentence that is already complete (IC). 2. Make the fragment into a sentence of its own.

Fragment: I bought a 16-pound turkey. Which wasn't large enough. Correct: I bought a 16-pound turkey which wasn't large enough. Correct: I bought a 16-pound turkey, but it wasn’t large enough.
