Did You Know? We consume twice as much as we did 50 years ago

We Waste Too Much Stuff! Every year an increasing amount of waste is created from textiles and their production. The US is responsible for adding close to 13 million tons of textile waste to landfills each year.

What Can We Do about it? REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE Inspire and motivate others!

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Reduces waste in landfills and energy used to transport waste. Reduces emissions of greenhouse gasses created when clothing is burned or decomposes.

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Reduces water and air contamination, as a result of manufacturing new clothing.

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Creates employment and work place skill opportunities.

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Supports charitable community initiatives:  Low Income Family Services  Addiction Counselling  Homeless Shelters  Emergency & Disaster Relief  At-Risk Youth Programs

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Makes low-cost clothing available to frugal shoppers who value original fashion.

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Provides economical clothing options in developing countries where there is high demand.

Why is Recycling Clothing Important? Provides low cost start-up business opportunities in developing countries.

Where Will Our Donations Go? All donations from our Used Clothing Drive will be sent to thrift stores. Donations will be sold in store, or in large quantities to recyclers and graders (who ship clothing overseas) to provide funding for charitable initiatives. Many thrift stores generate funding for charities that provide vital support and services to people in need all across the US. Donations are always needed and nothing is ever wasted!

The goal is to fill a truck…and raise $5,000! What Are We Shooting For? Let’s break it down… The average donation bag or box weighs 17 lbs We need to collect almost 1,800 bags or boxes There are 400 students here at Insert Name of School This means that each student needs to bring in 4.5 bags or boxes

You could actually raise twice that much! Imagine the Possibilities… Now Think Even BIGGER … $10,000!

You’ll Need a Can-Do Attitude Challenge Yourself! If each student commits to a goal of 8 to 10 bags/boxes, we can easily double your weight to 60,000 lbs…or more! If we all work together… we can set a record! No school in the US has EVER done this before.

What you can do… Mini-Flyers Posters Word of Mouth Social Media Letter Home to Parents What your parents can do… Ask for donations at work Send emails to all their friends Share on Facebook & Twitter How Can We Do it?

Questions, Comments…Ideas?
