Earthly Plan for God (vv.1-3) 2 Samuel 7:1-3 After the king was settled in his palace and the L ORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him, 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” 3 Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the L ORD is with you.” 3 2 Samuel 7

Earthly Plan for God (vv.1-3) Genesis 12:1–3 (NIV) The L ORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4 2 Samuel 7

I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. 7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?” ’ 6 2 Samuel 7

What God will do for and through David’s offspring 1 Kings 2:1-4 10 2 Samuel 7 When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, 3 and observe what the L ORD your God requires… that the L ORD may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.’

What God will do for and through David’s offspring 1 Chronicles 22:5 11 2 Samuel 7 5 David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the L ORD should be of great magnificence and fame and splendor in the sight of all the nations. Therefore I will make preparations for it.” So David made extensive preparations before his death.

What God will do for and through David’s offspring Ezekiel 37:24–25 12 2 Samuel 7 24 “ ‘My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd… They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever. [My servant David = The offspring of David] as David has long since rested with his fathers.

And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever…

David’s and Our Rightful Response vv.17-29 2 Samuel 7:18-19 17 2 Samuel 7 18 Then King David went in and sat before the L ORD, and he said: “Who am I, Sovereign L ORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, Sovereign L ORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant—and this decree, Sovereign L ORD, is for a mere human!
