2 What Is a Control File? Every Oracle Database has a control file, which is a small binary file that records the physical structure of the database.

3 The control file includes: The database name Names and locations of associated datafiles and redo log files The timestamp of the database creation The current log sequence number Checkpoint information

4 1- Connect to database !

5 Steps for Creating New Control Files 1- Make a list of all datafiles and redo log files of the database select member from v$logfile;

6 select name from v$datafile;

7 select value from v$parameter where name = 'control_files';

8 2- Shut down the database. Shutdown immediate

9 3- start up startup

10 Controlfile name select name from v$controlfile;

11 Controlfile status select status from v$controlfile; INVALID if the name cannot be determined, which should not occur. Null if the name can be determined.

12 Indicates whether the file was created in the flash recovery area (YES) or not (NO) select is_recovery_dest_file from v$controlfile;
