1 The Map Collection Please read instructions for use on page 2 and see examples on slides 3 & 4 Reference maps with the country names are available starting with page 25 created by Tilo Flache

2 www.flache.be How to use the Map collection? Look for suitable map, then copy and paste the slide (from the slide bar) into your own presentation. A slide contains multiple elements: country objects (each country is one element; on “country” maps each region is one element) in the right margin, you will find: a text box for a “legend header” and a series of colour boxes with a legend text box Working with the maps: set up a series of categories and apply the selected colours in the legend (use the "shape fill" colour schemes on display on the Drawing Tools ribbon – they come in series of similar colours! use the Format Painter to apply the colours from the legend to the required countries Adding text content to the maps It has proven to be inconvenient and confusing to add information like country names, cities, etc. into the templates as only a small portion of them will actually be useful for the intended result –you can find the country names in the "Reference maps" section starting with page 23; or –to check place locations (cities, regions, etc.) please refer to an online atlas like http://maps.google.com/ or http://www.bing.com/maps/ http://maps.google.com/http://www.bing.com/maps/ –use text boxes to add names to the map (TIP: create one text box, format correctly and then duplicate to ensure consistency throughout your map) –use "standard" indicators as markers in order to create clear and consistent maps Troubleshooting if you have deleted the standard legend, copy the one on the right to the "defective" slide Other uses of the map collection: you can copy a single country or a group of countries (hold down Ctrl to select more than one) into another application you can colour certain countries and then use the Snipping Tool to cut and paste a particular view 2 Legend category
