4 Automotive Divisions Environmental Management in Product Development Niels Warburg 4 / TGU / Druckdatum © Continental AG Any other business (I) Rejections by FIAT (2% tolerance issue) Information from IMDS responsible person at FIAT (Mrs. Katia Zardo) FIAT reduced their IMDS tolerance to 2%. FIAT is automatically rejecting datasheet, if any assembly or subcomponents has more than 2% deviation (driven by requirements of local authorities) Workaround (proposed by FIAT) Mrs. Zardo offered to manually accept all those datasheets, where the (sub)components exceed 2% tolerance as long as the (sub)components weight is below 100g. Please act as following in such cases:  1) submit IMDS datasheet as usual  2) next day call Mrs. Zardo and tell her the IMDS ID  then she will accept it Remark: * This is an interims solution, until FIAT adapted their systems (timeline??) * It is not necessary to change the "tolerance" field in IMDS to 2% - just the calculated deviation must be <2%  No "official" statement from FIAT on this issue (in spite of several request)

We asked Steering Committee to publish a clarification on how to proceed with warning, including a clear message that a warning does not necessarily mean that a rejection is necessary  SC promised (several times) to do so, but did not publish it until today In discussions with AIAG we learned, that the term "warning" has a very strong meaning in the US (e.g. "Tornado warning")  that's for sure one of the reasons for so many rejections on warnings "Warning" has a stronger meaning than "error" in English  we proposed to SC to change the word "warning" into "hint", but could not convince them
