Each item produced is likely to be unique. Batch production - is where a business makes a number of the same product (a batch) at the same time, i.e. a bakery might make 2000 tin loaves, followed by 1000 bread rolls. Process production – This method of production involves a series of automated processes which, when applied to a variety of raw materials, results in a large quantity of a finished product. For example BP uses this type of production to refine crude oil. Flow production - is a method of production which involves an assembly line, it is used to make large numbers of identical or standardized products. Goods are mass produced. Ford uses flow production to make cars.

16. Division of Labour and Specialisation One of the major advantages of flow production is that many processes which require a labour input can be broken down into small repetitive tasks. As a result of breaking down the production process into a number of small specialised tasks, the amount of time needed to train a worker to undertake the task may not be very long. While workers may become very efficient at doing their job, because of the number of times they complete the task each day, the job can become very boring and workers may become de-motivated. However, by allowing workers to specialise in production tasks, productivity can improve.
