1 Graphing Quadratic Functions in Standard Form 5.1 Algebra II

2 Goal: Students will be able to graph quadratic functions in the form

3 Facts The graph of a quadratic function is a parabola. The lowest or highest point on a parabola is called the vertex The axis of symmetry divides the parabola into mirror images and passes through the vertex.

4 Graphing 1.Find the axis of symmetry using the equation 2.Find the vertex using the x value you find from the above step. 3.x-y chart with 5 values, one of them being the vertex 4.Plot and draw your parabola

5 a,b and c Identify the values of a, b, and c for the function in standard form.

6 Finding the vertex This formula will give you the x value for your vertex, then plug in and find the y value.
