Social Factors Approaches to developing performance

What are the two main approaches we have used to develop social factors? 1.Cooperation Drills 2.Team Building Exercises

Cooperation Drills Co-operation drills are performed with the people in your team. They are used to develop an understanding of each role. Also, they improve skills and communication and help to create a coordinated attack. Volleyball https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHMU6mx1wqo Football https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLBdMNVHB4Q

Cooperation Drills R/H sette r Server 1 server 2 receivers/hitters 1 setter The ball can be thrown over or served underarm to allow players on the other side of the net to initiate a three touch attack. Players move round a place if an attack is successful.

Explanation of why we use cooperation drills Throughout this drill the teacher explains what is expected in each position which increases the players understanding of each role and how they link. Each player gets to play in all of the positions whether that be setter, receiver or hitter. Subsequently, players gain a greater appreciation of what is required for all the positions within a volleyball team. Because there is less pressure teams have a greater chance of being successful. The organisation of the practice makes it easier to improve communication. If a player in the team makes an error their team mates will be more inclined to give them encouragement, but also the less pressurised environment will allow them to offer constructive feedback.

What are the main limitations of cooperation drills? 1.This method can be boring for players if done for too long as it lacks any competition. Therefore, this can lead to players losing motivation and it could result in communication and understanding of roles decreasing. 2.You must be physically able and proficient for this approach to be successful. If one player in the team is unable to perform the basic skills and movements of the game the practice will breakdown. 3. Some people in the team may sit back and let others do all the work. This will then cause conflict between team members and the practice will breakdown. Also, that player won't be improving their social skills because others are doing the work.

Task Question: Choose two social sub factors that impacts on performance. Evaluate one approach to develop these factors. (4 marks) Starting sentence: Two social sub factors that impact on my performance are communication and roles and responsibilities. One approach to develop these sub factors would be cooperation drills. Evaluation (4 marks) 4 Evaluation points about the use of cooperation drills.

Team Building Exercises Working with people in your team to solve a problem or complete a task. They encourage people to cooperate with each other and work together in a positive way. Quite often used at the “forming stage” when people are getting to know each other – “ice breakers”

Team Building Exercises https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SBgQxyG5 ww

Team Building Exercises In teams of 4 (volleyball teams) working together to try and get the full team across the length of the games hall only using the 2 gym mats. At no point are any members of the team allowed to touch the games hall floor, you are only allowed to be on the 2 mats provided. This is a race against the other teams.

Explanation of why we use team building exercises The “fun and competitive” environment motivates people to try their best, which helps bring teams together and create camaraderie.

Explanation of why we use team building exercises Since all the exercises are performed with people in your team you learn to communicate better and gain trust in each other. People learn that they are dependent on each other.

Explanation of why we use team building exercises They can help to identify leadership skills in players which will be useful to a teacher or coach when it comes to selecting a captain.

Limitations of Team Building Activities Some people start to sit back and let others do the work. Subsequently, this conflict between team members will impact negatively on team cohesion, which could transfer into games There has to be a real purpose to these exercises otherwise people see them as pointless. If this happens the exercises will be ineffective. They require a lot of specialist equipment and time to set up. Less time spent on developing social factors and other parts of your game.

Exam Question Select one Social factor that has had a negative impact on your performance. Explain how you developed this factor to help improve your performance. (4 marks) Structure: 1.Select the sub factor (Team Dynamics, Communication, Roles & Responsibilities) 2.Choose your approach to developing this sub factor – Team Building Exercises 3.Explain why you have chosen this approach.
