2 Mission Statement The mission of the Pender Public School District is to provide quality educational opportunities in a safe, positive learning environment that motivates and challenges all students to become productive and responsible citizens.

3 Workshops/Meetings  Past Events  April 14, 15, 16 – AdvancED External Visit (Howells-Dodge)  April 21, 22, 23 – AdvancED External Visit (Pender)  April 22 – Community Center Meeting  May 1 – Teacher Inservice, 1:00 pm dismissal (AdvancED Follow Up, Building Meetings)  May 6 – Community Center Meeting  Future Events  May 19 – Last Day of School  May 22 – Last Teacher Contract Day (or June 5)  May 28 – EHC Meeting  June 3 – ESU 1 Superintendent’s Meeting

4 Future Ready Schools Summit  Future Ready is a free, bold new effort to maximize digital learning opportunities and help school districts move quickly toward preparing students for success in college, a career, and citizenship.  The effort provides districts with resources and support to ensure that local technology and digital learning plans align with instructional best practices, are implemented by highly trained teachers, and lead to personalized learning experiences for all students.  ESU 2 sponsored the trip and invited Pender to participate  Eric Miller, Andy Welsh, and Vicki Smith plan to represent Pender  June 15 and 16 in Chicago, Illinois  PPS will only pay for 3 nights of lodging

6 Reimers Auction Details  Total Revenue = $1,367.30  20% Commission Items totaled $1,325  Trailer sold for $1,100  Dragon Wagon sold for $225  Commission totaled $265  30% Commission Items totaled $439  Lights sold for $142  Small trailer $150  Weight racks $75  Various weight equipment $72  Commission totaled $131.70

7 Pender Ministerial Association  Food Pantry  The Pender Ministerial Association was recently approved as a food pantry for the Food Bank of Siouxland  They plan to distribute food to area families 2 times per month  First distribution begins this Saturday  We were asked to distribute information to families and will do so this week  Supply Back Packs  In August, the Pender Ministerial Association plans to purchase as many backpacks as possible and load them with supplies to distribute to Pender students  Distribution will occur during the Open House or at some point in time near the beginning of the 15-16 school year  Thanks to this organization for its community support!!

8 Bountiful Baskets Food Co-op  Bountiful Baskets is a not-for-profit food co-op for families that want to have more fresh produce for less money  Lela Heineman and Diane Randall plan to bring this organization to Pender and need a receiving and distribution site to do so  Two times per month  Friday after school hours or Saturday morning  I have given them permission to use the school  This organization does have liability insurance

10 AdvancED External Visit  Powerful Practices  1.2 A set of Governing Beliefs statements are shared and valued throughout the school and community.  2.3 The governing body ensures that the school leadership has the autonomy to meet goals for achievement and instruction and to manage day-to-day operations effectively.  3.9 The staff have implemented a formal structure for developing relationships and advocating for individual students in a way that enhances the educational experience of all students.  4.5 The technology infrastructure supports the school’s teaching, learning, and operational needs.

11 AdvancED External Visit  Opportunities for Improvement  1.1 Create and commit to a systematic and comprehensive process to review, revise and communicate a school purpose for student success.  3.2 Create and implement a formal, systemic curriculum development and program adoption process.  3.5 Develop a structure and process for teacher collaboration to improve instruction and student learning.  3.4 and 3.6 Develop a connection between the evaluation system, professional growth of staff, and classroom practices that promote increased student learning.  3.12 and 4.6 Formalize a process to implement and evaluate programming designed to meet the unique needs of all subgroups of students.  5.3 Develop and implement training and assessment for all professional and support staff members in the evaluation, interpretation and use of data.

16 The External Review Team recommends to the AdvancED Accreditation Commission that the Pender Public Schools earn the distinction of accreditation by AdvancED for a five-year term that expires June 30, 2020. Recommendation © 2014 AdvancED
