2 2009 Freshmen Class Profile - Women 24% - Men 76% - 79% Missouri - 19% Out-of-State - 2% International (10 foreign countries) - 9% minority

3 2009 Freshmen Class Profile - 1174 (1077) participated in PRO this year - 1,120 Freshmen (estimate) - 29% (34%) are 1st generation - Average ACT: 27.4 (upper 10% in nation) - 82% (74%) plan to work while attending school - 24% (22%) have not chosen a specific major ( ) are last year’s numbers

4 Academic Expectations - 65% (67% ) plan to complete a BS in 4 years or < - 24% (24%) plan to complete a BS in 5 years - 9% (8%) plan to complete a BS in 6 + years (average time to graduation – 4.7 years) - 25% (22%) plan to go to graduate school

5 Academic Expectations By the end of the first year at S&T students expect to fall in the following GPA ranges: 47.5% (51%) 3.5-4.0 47.5% (44%) 3.0-3.49 4% (5%) 2.5-2.99 1% (0) 2.49 or less ( average UG GPA is 2.93 at graduation) - 45.6% (44%) plan to study more than 11 hours per week at Missouri S&T -84% (76%) studied less than 5 hours per week in high school

6 Faculty – Student Relationship – 94.5% (93%) plan to meet with faculty outside of the classroom/lab - 61% (53%) feel faculty should be very involved in their career development - 39% (47%) feel faculty should be somewhat involved - Less than.5 feel faculty should not be involved

7 Career Opportunities 93% (86%) plan to Co-op or internship 644 (673) different employers recruited S&T students in 08-09 Average starting salary for 07-08 undergraduates is $55,975 82% (93%) of the students reporting to the COC had firm plans at graduation 08-09
