5  Where: Outside the town of Ypres, Belgium. Also known as the Third Battle of Ypres  When: June-Nov 1917. Canada’s involvement began Oct 26 1017.  Notable Because: Another “big push” by Haig but after Vimy we had distinguished ourselves. Currie leads Canada using “bite and hold” strategy due to horrible conditions. This battle is defined by MUD.  Canada’s Role: We push the Germans back, only to have them take the town a few weeks later. Currie predicts 16,000 casualties and is almost exactly right. Over 1000 bodies never recovered in the mud.
