4 Everywhere else (besides the United States) uses the METRIC SYSTEM.

5 The Metric System It is EASY! Uses meters instead of inches, feet, yards or miles. Based on the unit of 10 (not like: 12 inches=1 foot, 3 feet= 1 yd). 10 millimeter= 1 centimeter

6 How do I read a ruler in centimeters? Each little line represents 1 millimeter (mm) The bigger lines represent 1 centimeter (cm). Make sure you are using the correct side of the ruler

7 Let’s look at some basic conversions: 1 m = 100 cm 10 mm= 1 cm

8 Now It’s Your Turn… You will be estimating measurements of objects around the room. You will then use a ruler or meter stick to find the actual measurements
