APLASTIC ANEMIA BY: AXEL, RYLIE, ALEJANDRA, LUCAS

APLASTIC ANEMIA Alternate names for disorder: Aplastic Anemia Names pronounced: A-Plasic A- Nemia How the name was chosen: The name was chosen because aplastic means failure of organ or tissue and anemia means blood disorder, so therefore it makes aplastic anemia. Aplastic anemia was founded by Paul Ehrlich introduced the concept of aplastic anemia in 1888,not until 1904 that Anatole Chauffard named this disorder aplastic anemia. Very little was and still is known about it, because of how rare it is.

TYPES OF GENETIC ORDER One of the types of aplastic anemia is MDS which stands for Myelody syndrome which is a group of blood cells that attack organism which effects the white blood cells in the nervous system. people are diagnosed with the disease but the cause is still unknown there are inherited disease such as fanconi anemia were SAA can form over time for some people

CHROMOSOMES/GENETICS GRAPHIC Chromosomal abnormalities can be found in people who have aplastic anemia but aren’t common. this disease isn’t genetically passed down but there are things that can cause it to occur. It can occur if exposed to specific types of toxins and harmful chemicals.

SYMPTOMS OF APLASTIC ANEMIA Easy bruising Shorten breath Out of control bleeding Excruciating pain when bleeding Pale Skin Nose bleeding Bleeding gums +- and headache

EFFECTS OF DISORDER The bone marrow is dead Stem cells die Low red and white cells Low platelet count (unable to regrow skin or stop bleeding)

DIAGNOSIS OF INDIVIDUAL WITH DISORDER They check the bone marrow and for bussing along with blood count, doctor also look at stem cells to see if they are dead or low in numbers.

PROGNOSIS OF INDIVIDUAL WITH DISORDER If they are treated they have a 50/50% chance of getting it again, but the longer they last without it, the smaller the chance becomes. This disorder impacts the person who has it by making them get frequent checkups until they find a cure. This disorder affects the family members by scaring them with the fact that there is a big chance of death.

TREATMENTS AND MEDICATIONS FOR APLASTIC ANEMIA Equine T-cell Rabbit T-cell Bone Marrow Transplant with Biological Sibling (if a match) Bone Marrow Transplant with Outside Family

CURRENT RESEARCH OF APLASTIC ANEMIA The current research of Aplastic Anemia is being done by NIH which stands for National institute of health. We currently have a researcher (that Axels family sponsored), she is currently working on why the stem cells die.

LIVIA'S STORY My little sister was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. She was in the hospital for many weeks. She had over 200 shots and was on big drugs such as steroids, equine t-cells, and also blood from many different people. She reacted well to the horse antibody's, but she is still not cured because there is no cure YET. But is doing good right now.
