8 YOU TOLD US YOUR CONCERNS (WHICH WE COLLECTED AT WARD MEETINGS) Council Yard on Bendbow Rise Development on Bendbow Rise School not started Hand Avenue –children run at back of houses Braunstone Lane – grass verges flooded with water Full vehicle parking on pavements, not just two wheels Drop kerbs are expensive need to be part of the answer not the problem Braunstone Leisure Centre Car Park – drainage Turning head ¾ the way down Mortimer Place BRITE Centre – access damaged House opposite Co-op on Hallam Crescent – car parking issues Overflowing litter bins in Webster Road

9 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - BIG ISSUES Secure the restoration of Braunstone Hall and immediate environment Maintain Braunstone Park in a proper state Produce a Health Strategy for Braunstone that addresses the primary causes of premature death and morbidity; and which will address health inequalities Develop a localised strategy to address the shortcomings in Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education Explore ways in which we can provide effective Vocational Training for local residents Improve the employment rate in Braunstone Maintain and build quality youth services that meet local needs

10 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - BIG ISSUES (cont’d) For the Police, Council and Community to continue to work together to resolve crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour problems in a timely fashion Make better of use of derelict land, e.g. use for housing; and maintain in a proper sightly state Explore the availability and use of land in Braunstone to address housing shortage Develop a charter to assimilate New Arrivals. Produce a Transportation and Traffic Plan for the Ward, which addresses the following priorities:- Traffic flows and management Parking on paving and verges Parking to forecourts Physical maintenance of roads and paving Speed and safety “Green” Transport

11 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - ENVIRONMENT Keep area clear of litter Explore provision of additional litter bins Keep area clear of graffiti Arrange for improved street clearing Properly and regularly maintain all grassed areas, shrubberies and beds Shop Forecourts - Explore community planting opportunities, take all actions necessary to make safe, and keep them clear of litter Ensure weed treatments are carried out to programme – means weeds don’t appear!! Arrange for more regular street gutter clearing to remove detritus Ensure all council house frontages are maintained in a proper state of repair and free of litter.

12 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TRAFFIC AND STREETS Explore ways to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement and grass verges Explore the prevalence of drop kerbs within the estate and take appropriate action Maintain the state of grass verges Maintain the repair of the road and paving surfaces in a fit state Ensure that all overgrown and hanging branches to streets are removed expeditiously Keeping the streets clear of dustbins Ensure that all ironworks are in a proper state of repair and do not present a hazard to residents

13 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TRAFFIC AND STREETS(Cont’d) Maintain the underpasses to Gallards Hill and Bendbow Rise in a proper state of repair and cleanliness and well lighted. Identify shortages in the provision of bus shelters and remedy Carry out an investigation into noise emissions from vehicles using the Ring Road. Provide adequate street lighting to Bronte Close

14 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - MISCELLANIOUS Secure the repair and security of the Electricity Substation on Corfield Rise Keep the play area in Webster Road free of litter, weeds and graffiti; and maintain access at all reasonable times Carry out a review of the monitoring of crime and disorder.

15 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TO THE ISSUES YOU TOLD US ABOUT AT OUR WARD MEETINGS On Environment… Ensure all litter bins are regularly emptied and do not overflow, particularly in Webster Road On Traffic and Streets… Explore parking restrictions to the turning head on Mortimer Place Carry out such repairs or works as may be necessary to preserve the grass verges in Brauinstone Lane Repair the drainage system to the Braunstone Leisure Centre car park Repair the damaged access to the BRITE Centre Resolve the car parking issues at the house on Hallam Crescent East opposite the Co-op On Anti-Social Behaviour… Investigate complaints of ASB by children in Hand Avenue

18 WHAT WE FOUND DURING PATCHWALKS (1) Environment Litter from fast food outlets; and to railway bridge banking Graffiti and Fly-posting – mostly to cable boxes, road signs, lampposts post-boxes and railway bridges Street cleaning – detritus to gutters; and leaves Trees and Shrubs – localised overgrown and overhanging branches to some streets Sub stations – overgrown vegetation on Nutfield Road and Fosse Road South Despoiled brook in Westcotes Park Overgrown gardens to some council housing

19 WHAT WE FOUND DURING PATCHWALKS (2) Traffic and Streets Vehicles parked on pavements in Gaddesby Avenue and Imperial Avenue Some areas of sunken, uneven and broken paving State of repair of some roads Persistent blockages to street gullies and water holding to some sites Vehicles speeding in Winchester Avenue and Imperial Avenue

Footpath by railway bridge suffering leakage from bridge Building adjacent to “Lyn’s Café” full of rubbish Drainage issues on corner of Narborough Rd/Winchester Ave Parking on corners along Lavender Rd/Sweetbrier Rd/Imperial Ave Sunken road surface adjacent 273 Fosse Rd South

22 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - BIG ISSUES Forecourts and general appearance to be maintained and, where possible, improved Investigate the feasibility of altering traffic flows Ensure wheelie bins are not left on streets Seek to reduce the number of privately rented properties used by students Ensure that all privately rented properties are improved and maintained to a proper standard; and ensure such properties do not detract from the appearance of the area Review the reasons for converting family houses to flats; and where this has happened, the Lettings Policy (Council Housing only)

23 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - ENVIRONMENT Keep area clear of litter and explore provision of additional litter bins Periodically remove accumulated litter and refuse to the railway banking Keep area clear of graffiti Arrange for more regular street gutter clearing to remove detritus; and the streets of leaves Ensure all overgrown and hanging branches to streets are removed expeditiously Ensure that all substations are properly maintained and kept clear of litter and rubbish Keep the brook in Wescotes Park clear of litter and other deposits Pursue with the Council Housing Dept how the gardens to their properties can be maintained in a proper state

24 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TRAFFIC AND STREETS Stop vehicles from parking on the pavement Maintain the repair of the road and paving surfaces in a fit state Audit all street gullies to ensure they are adequate to prevent water accumulating on the roads Stop speeding in the 20mph areas

26 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TO THE ISSUES YOU TOLD US ABOUT AT OUR WARD MEETINGS To explore and publish a Ward newsletter Sort out Dog Fouling Audit locality play facilities for children; explore additional provision; sort out anti- social behaviour in the meantime Sort out the water leakage from the railway bridges Clear all rubbish from the railway embankments and the building adjacent to “Lynn’s Café” Resolve surface water problems in Fosse Rd South and Imperial Avenue Stop vehicle parking on the pavements in Lavender Rd/Sweetbrier Rd/Imperial Ave permanently Provide a permanent solution to the overflowing drainage gully at the corner of Narborough Rd/Winchester Ave

Graffiti – mostly to cable boxes, road signs and post-boxes; and Great Central Way Street cleaning – detritus to gutters and seasonal weeds Trees – localised overgrown and overhanging branches to some streets Sub station – overgrown vegetation on Dumbleton Avenue Noise – nuisance from broken “alligator teeth” to the access and egress to industrial estate

33 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - BIG ISSUES Continue to support pupils and staff at Riverside School until closure Secure the continued use of the Riverside site for educational purposes Secure the reopening of the Manor House Community Centre Retain the playing fields as open space; and explore future community use of the land Audit public transport needs for residents in Rowley Fields Address residents’ concerns about the re-routing of the No. 51 bus including safety of the Roundhay Road/Evesham Road corner Seek the cancellation of the Evesham Rd Link Continue high level monitoring of anti- social behaviour associated with Tesco’s

35 WE PROPOSE THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS - TRAFFIC AND STREETS Stop vehicles from parking on the pavement Seek traffic restrictions to reduce the danger of the bend - Harefield Rd/Lyncote Rd Maintain the repair of the road and paving surfaces in a fit state Audit bus and car learner drivers usage of local streets Audit dropped kerbs Pursue the feasibility of changing the vehicular access and egress to the industrial estate Explore restricting u-turns on Narborough Road Review the locations of bus signs along the bus route
