3. Chapter 1 – Vocabulary suede (p2)- leather with a fuzzy or hairy surface ogling (p3) – to stare/look at with great interest spastic (p7) – very quick movement, like from a spasm “shrink” (9)- slang for psychiatrist denial (p10) – refusal to admit the truth

4. Chapter 1 – Idioms rip out my memory bank (p6) - forget shooting the bull (p2)- talking; informal discussing don’t make waves (p2)- don’t make trouble; don’t cause problems load off my chest (p9)- relief after talking about something write me off (p11)- ignore me; not believe me

5. Chapter 1 – Featured Passage “But I knew later was no further off than when I hit ‘send.’ I was ready to go back to death in the woods. It had taken me a year of being away, but I felt my sympathy rising for myself at sixteen, back when I hadn’t written much more than a book report and a few dumb songs. I had to see what I was like back then” (Plum-Ucci 12).

6. Chapter 1 – Featured Passage Explanation I found the passage to be very informative of Torey’s character. It showed him to be torn, damaged and driven. The passage made me want to read on to get answers to questions. What is Torey running from? What happened to make him leave his hometown? Why did he change so much?
