2 The Details Platform for distributing books in the humanities and social sciences 70% of these are OA Based in France, with offices in Paris and Marseille, and one office in Lisbon Funded by the French Government, run by the Centre for Open Electronic Publishing This is the fourth OpenEdition platform, following: Revues.org (Journals), Calenda (Calendar) and Hypotheses (Blogs)

3 The Problem The author-pays funding model is not ideal, particularly in the humanities –Less grant support –Typically fewer authors per paper

4 The Solution The Freemium model: –Publisher must make at least 50% of books distributed through OpenEdition OA in HTML –Readers must pay for premium (PDF or ePub) versions –Toll access books sold individually or in bundles

8 “Understanding the World In all Languages” Scope: –Building an “international library for the digital humanities” –Selected by Open Edition’s Academic Review Board –Number of books by language: French: 725 English: 112 Spanish: 71 Italian: 11 Visibility: –3 million visits per month

9 Costs Revues.org based on FTE ( range of 900- 6900 Euros) Open Edition books: –Price established by publisher –Open Edition will offer a 10% discount on bundles of 100 books –Average price per book is 48 Euro
