8. Activities, Purpose, Value Activity: Outdoor School: All 6 th graders in Portland Public Schools go to camp 5 days to learn about nature. (Now shorter due to budget cuts). Study ecology, the natural environment, about plants and trees, soil, etc. Purpose: Learn about nature & our reliance on nature. Make people aware of our effect on nature. Value: Importance of natural systems. We need to consider how we interact with nature and the consequences of our actions. 8
