Novell iFolder Novell Academy QuickTrain

What is iFolder? Novell iFolder lets users’ files follow them anywhere A simple and secure way to access, organize and manage your files from anywhere, anytime Automatically and intelligently updates your data across multiple systems Provides secure access to your files from a Web browser Encrypts sensitive files to protect them from unauthorized access iFolder gives you hardware liberation—your data follows you to any machine on which you work With Novell iFolder, your electronic bags are always packed. You no longer need to copy data from one machine to another when you travel

market opportunity Gartner Group, IDC, and Meta Group state that 40-80% of a company’s business critical data resides on PCs (Desktops & Laptops) There will be over 100 million laptops by 2002 35% of PCs sold into business organizations are laptops (IDC) 41% of employees have remote access into corporate networks - this will increase to 90% by 2004 Mobile Services Revenue is increasing from 1.4 Billion in 2001 to 28 billion in 2004 ( IDC )

who needs iFolder? The primary audience is companies with a mobile workforce The secondary market is companies with data on local machines that need to be backed up or made accessible through the Internet The third market is Service Providers who provide the iFolder server to their subscribers

customer profile questions Does your customer have remote users that need to have access to their data from their local machine, on the network, and through a Web browser? Does your customer rely on e-mail to distribute files to themselves to ensure that their data is backed up and made available from another machine? Is your customer’s IT organization backing up data on mobile PC laptops? Is this process automated and scalable ? Does your customer realize how much time and money they are spending on restoring lost data from mobile PCs? Is your customer aware of the risk of data loss for a laptop? How is your customer performing PC data migration for users when they receive a new machine?

iFolder solves the problems of data availability Your data is everywhere and yet, frequently not where you need it You have several computers which can author, edit, and share the info You have different document versions on different PCs Your data is not backed up and protected from a system crash Your data is not universally available from any network because of firewalls, protocols, networks, connectivity, etc. You need to be able to access your data through a Web browser what business problems does iFolder solve?

calculate the problem cost PCs in use72 million PCs experiencing data loss: Hardware failure1,921,300 Human error1,397,300 Software corruption 611,300 Computer viruses 305,700 Theft 234,400 Hardware destruction 131,000 Total 4,601,000 Average cost of each data loss incident: Technical services 380 Lost productivity 177 Value of lost data 2,000 Total $2,557 Total US data loss costs $11.8 billion

competitive advantage Microsoft Intellimirror Offline Files and Folders Intellimirror is not an Internet solution –Offline Files and Folders use the CIFS file protocol, which is a LAN-based protocol – iFolder runs over the standard Internet Protocol - HTTP –Offline Files and Folders would require you to use a VPN to access your files –iFolder is designed to run without a VPN due to it’s use of standard Internet protocols Offline Files and Folders has an inefficient synchronization process –Offline Files and Folders cannot do delta synchronization. If you had a 20 meg presentation and add one bitmap, Offline Files and Folders would have to send the whole 20 meg presentation –iFolder only sends the changed portion in the modified file, in this case, it would only send the bitmap and not the whole 20 meg presentation

iFolder Benefits iFolder lets your files follow you anywhere With iFolder, you can: Automatically update data across multiple workstations Access files through familiar methods—c:\my documents\iFolder Access files from a Web browser anywhere No complex login procedures—Internet access is all you need Lengthy VPN logins are no longer required To update information, simply connect to the Internet Your productivity is increased because you no longer have pockets of data that are out of sync with split version problems The view of your data is the same on all machines Simplify!

iFolder Benefits Secure Allows you to encrypt your files on the server so that no one but you can access them Protects against data loss since the data is stored on the server and multiple workstations Corporate data assets from local machines are now centrally hosted and backed up Accelerate iFolder is based on Internet standards, which makes it more than just a LAN solution iFolder only sends the changes to a file, not the whole file, which keeps bandwidth usage to a minimum When you receive a new machine, it is automatically updated with your data

Availability & Pricing iFolder will be released as a separate product for Netware 5.1 and Windows NT/2000 Server (Scheduled for June 29, 2001) iFolder pricing Free download for customers paying maintenance/upgrade protection on Netware Or $49/user, $15/user per year for subscription licensing, $1.50 for Service Provider ICSP monthly fee iFolder will be included in NetWare 6
