The Second Chance Joshua 8 “Enter In” series #j12 October 7, 2012

Joshua 8 There is a Jewish proverb that says: “There are three men who get no pity - an unsecured creditor, a hen-pecked husband, and a man that does not try again.” No Christian who has been overcome should sink into hopelessness, but rather should repent, and try again, more completely relying upon God. David, Peter, Mark all suffered defeat, but they all rose again to outstanding victory. Past failure should teach us, and not paralyze us. Thank God for the scars that cannot be removed - Let them serve as memorials - and press on to the prize.

There is a doctrine of “Recoverability” …for all who will to live victoriously. Joshua again attacked Ai with different results this time. His valley of Achor (trouble) became a door of hope, and so may yours! No past should mortgage your present. Get right with God now, and try again. *Great things can be done when God’s people retrace their sinful steps to repentance and restitution and will act according to His great will. By the way, “public for public…private for private.” *Let us once again act according to God’s will.

*Notice what happens when we act according to God’s will. I. God Is the Ruler (vs. 1,2) II. Obedience Is the Rule (vs. 3-13) III. Victory Is the Result (vs. 19-29) IV. Worship Is the Response (vs. 30-35)

Today is the Day of Response. The “second chance” offer is not on the table forever. It is a fleeting or passing offer. Psalm 95:7; Hebrews 3:7, 15; 4:7-16 Romans 13:11-14 11 ¶ And this do, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. 12 The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts. How will you respond to your second chance?
