1 History Fair 2016 Theme: Exploration, Encounter, Exchange

2 Exploration, Encounter, Exchange Exploration: a new idea, concept, or theory that is tested. Voyages (Vasco da Gama, Hernan Cortez, Ferdinand Magellan, Christopher Columbus) Scientific (Vaccine for polio, code of human genome, psychology) Transportation (Ships, trains, cars, airplanes, rockets) Fields: politics, economics, military science, etc.

3 Exploration, Encounter, Exchange Encounters: with different peoples, unfamiliar environments and new ideas. People (Native Americans and settlers, Slavery) Environments (Lewis & Clark Expedition, The Americas) New Ideas (Printing Press, Triangular Trade)

4 Exploration, Encounter, Exchange Exchange: goods, food, ideas, religions, disease, gunfire, etc. Goods (Trans-Atlantic Trade, Wars, Bartering ) Ideas (Magnetic Compass, Printing Press) Religion (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism) Disease (Small pox, Flu, the Bubonic Plague, Measles)

5 Extra Stuff You ARE NOT required to address all three areas (Exploration, Encounter, Exchange) for your project, but you can. You are not just reporting the past, but you are investigating, searching, digging deeper into the research to thoroughly understand the historical significance of time, as well as impact. Think about when events happened, why they happened and what effects they had.

7 Exhibit 500 of your own words on a tri-fold board Must have a thesis statement Must support your thesis statement Include pictures Rule book contains size descriptions

8 Performance 5 minutes to set-up 10 minutes to present 5 minutes to take down Scripts must be in writing Create a thesis statement on which the script will focus Prepare a set and costumes Choose a topic with dramatic flare MUST be presented live

9 Documentary 5 minutes to set-up 10 minutes to play 5 minutes to take down Can be a slide presentation, film and video presentation, or a computer- based presentation (using your own equipment) Must have a written story board Be sure the narrative fits with what is on the screen

10 Research Paper Collect information Organize information Present your information to the reader in a clear, interesting fashion Must be 6-10 pages Must include footnotes and endnotes

11 Webpage Cannot be larger than 100MB Cannot be larger than 1200 words Must present and support a thesis Be sure to make it interactive Topics that don’t have a lot of textual material are best

12 All Projects are Required to have: Title Page Process Paper (500 words) Must answer the following questions in this order Why I chose this topic How did I conduct my research How did I create and develop my exhibit How my project relates to the theme Annotated Bibliography (Using at least 10 sources; 5 MUST be primary)

13 Annotated Bibliography Annotations include how and in what ways the source was used and if it was helpful. You MUST use www.noodletools.comwww.noodletools.com
