OMG Architecture Ecosystem SIG Enterprise Data World 2011
2
To enable the transformations, agility, efficiency, collaboration and automation we have been promising for years Today, message formats, vocabularies and enterprise information are closed and siloed There is an opportunity To help federate information for and about the enterprise and enterprise systems To enable information and data modeling as an open and collaborative experience, tuned to the needs of stakeholders To discover and reconcile concepts, entities and data throughout the enterprise and beyond. To unify the knowledge in multiple tools, infrastructures and information resources A Strategic Opportunity 2
3
Focused on better integration of information, models and meta- models Initiated to solve OMG problems with lack of integration between modeling languages Progressed to addressing information integration The metamodel integration problem being a special case of information integration Two Tracks Solving UML specific issues with profiles and meta models Semantic integration of information (SIMF) OMG Architecture Ecosystem SIG
4
First stop on the roadmap, SIMF RFP (In draft) Focus on information and data modeling and federation But centered on the federation problems Unify the multiple ways information is modeled E/R & SQL UML XML Schema OWL, Common Logic & RDF ISO 11169 Etc… Unifying information sharing Don’t replace, federate !!! Semantic Information Modeling for Federation (SIMF)
5
Federating Models with SIMF Semantic Information Modeling for Federation Ontology UML E/R SQL XML Schema Ontologies ISO 11179 SIMF Notation Conceptual Modeling Semantic Model Relationships
6
Focus on modeling to address the data integration problem Information Federation Definition of conceptual (domain) models as link between logical and physical models Links between independently conceived models Links between conceptual and physical models Bring together: Data modeling (E/R), interaction modeling (i.e. XML Schema, NIEM, Etc.) & Conceptual modeling (i.e. Ontologies, Vocabularies, Etc.) SIMF Model grounded in a formal language Semantic grounding capabilities – focused on information modeling needs, optional for an information model Can be applied to any meta-level, thus also addresses data, model & language integration User focused graphical and textual notation SIMF RFP Details (Draft)
7
User target - Anyone who models or integrates information at rest or in transit Examples US Government Information Sharing [ISE]. European Cooperation for Space Standardization NIEM Financial message interoperability (MDMI) Master Data Management Controlled vocabularies SIMF Target User
8
Core requirements Foundational model that is semantically grounded Conceptual & logical modeling capability, including vocabularies and information focused ontologies Links between models at multiple levels User-focused Notations (Graphical and textual) Ability to import and export information models to/from existing forms (including MOF) SIMF Core Requirements
9
Participate! Next step – refine (and simplify) RFP Engage user & industry stakeholders We invite the data modeling and ontology communities! Email list (Open to all) Send email to “request at omg dot org” Wiki http://www.omgwiki.org/architecture-ecosystem/doku.php Cory Casanave (AESIG Chair) Cory dash c at modeldriven dot com Discussion… Interested?
