1 WELCOME Parents! Please take a chaperone packet located next to the sign-in sheets –Packet contains the PowerPoint from tonight, useful maps of DC—National Mall & Smithsonian Institutes, and the “Photo Scavenger Hunt” activity

2 Itinerary for Washington, D.C. Field Trip June 2 nd, 2016 6:00 A.M. Students and chaperones arrive at SLMS and go to the cafeteria—sit at the table(s) by your bus number; organize by chaperone & group 6:15 A.M. Board buses and at 6:30 A.M. Depart from SLMS—we will not hold buses for late-comers 9:30 A.M. - 10:00 A.M. Arrive in DC—drop-off at The Smithsonian Institute of American History Madison Drive NW Upon arrival, gather your group and review your plan for the day. Explore all that DC has to offer! Remember the Photo Scavenger Hunt activity! http://wikitravel.org/en/Washington,_D.C./National_Mall Lunch as you walk or a stop along the way— It’s up to you and your group when & where you eat At @ 2:45: Be aware of your group’s proximity in relation to The Capitol Building pick-up point! 3:15 P.M. Meet the buses at The Capitol Building—SW corner, near the the US Botanic Gardens and begin boarding your bus (Chaperones, please take a final count of your group) 3:30 P.M. depart for SLMS 7:00 – 7:30 P.M. Arrive at SLMS—parents should be there by 7:30, unless notified otherwise—we will encourage the students to make calls home when about ½ hour away from SLMS

3 Drop-Off Location (@9:30-10:00 AM) The Smithsonian Institute of American History Madison Drive NW (On the mall side—see map) Pick-Up Location SW corner of the Capitol Building We will start loading buses at 3:00 PM and depart promptly at 3:30 PM (See map)

6 Other Useful Information Chaperones have a phone list with all cell phone numbers—please keep your cell phones on and do not lose this list Be aware that there is a great deal of walking (potentially 5 miles or more) so be realistic about how many museums and memorials you and your group can visit in one day! Be sure that your group is staying hydrated as it may be very hot and humid; prices are marked up on the mall

7 Be aware of street intersections and traffic lights when crossing Keep your group together at all times; if part of a larger group, you are still responsible for your original group Provide strict guidelines for your group Make sure you have your phone and that it is charged Chaperones should position themselves throughout the bus to monitor ALL students’ behavior Keep with the meeting/departure time (at the US Capitol Building SW corner— nearest the Botanic Gardens—by 3:15 PM) Buses will depart promptly at 3:30 PM

8 Do not allow students to go anywhere by themselves Do not allow students to go ahead of you while crossing streets Do not allow students to switch groups –Any problems, please contact one of the team leaders

10 Do not park in the front parking lot at Springton Lake—park in the lot by the auditorium—near softball fields Meet in the cafeteria by 6:00 A.M. Tables will be organized by bus number A teacher will be at your table with your list of students If you are missing any students by 6:15 A.M., please inform the teacher(s) assigned to your bus
