2 Warm up 2 Turn your short story into the “in box.” Have your warm up on your desk and a pencil out. If you have your syllabus signed, please turn it to the signed page and have it out on your desk too. NOTHING ELSE!!

3 Writing prompt Brainstorm on the link between poverty (extremely poor) and obesity (very overweight). How do you think they are related? What do you know about these two subjects?

4 Warm up 3 Write a 2 sentences here about the pictures we looked at yesterday using ideas about poverty and health. Please have your signed syllabus on your desk, turned to the page with you and your guardian’s signature on it.

5 Warm up 4 Pick up 2 of the blank summary templates on the front table. Write 3 sentences with 3 different vocab words that show the meaning of the words without writing out the definition.

6 Warm up 5 What are you looking forward to this weekend? (3 sentences)

7 Warm up 6 Turn in vocabulary exercises and break downs. Pick up the socratic circle rubric on the front table. Look at your socratic circle rubric. Write 3 sentences about what I am expecting out of you during the conversations. Have your sq3r out on your desk so I can come around and check.

8 Warm up 7 Put your article #4 with annotations in the “in bin.” Write 3 sentences about your weekend using a different vocabulary word for each.

9 Warm up 8 Write 2 sentences about what you have learned since reading these articles for your paper.

10 Warm up 9 Turn in annotated bibliography (in the “in bin”) Finish this sentence “Someone once told me…” (4 sent. Min).

11 Warm up 10 Finish this sentence, “Someone once told me…” 4 sentence minimum

12 Warm up 11 How did the vocabulary test go? What could you do differently with the next test to do better? When you are done answering these questions, staple/turn in warm ups 1-11 and place them in the “in bin.”

13 Warm up 12 If you have any “Pooh Bear stamps” on your thesis or your outline, please put those on your desk now. Wild card: Write 3 complete sentences of your choice here (school appropriate)!

22 Warm up 21 Answer the following questions honestly and completely. How did this writing unit go? What did you learn from it? What could I do better to help students the next time? After answering this question, take out your outline, and both rough drafts from the writing unit

24 Warm up 23 Write down this definition: Hysteria- exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement, especially among a group of people. Think about when we have seen hysteria in our society and write down an example.

26 Warm up 25 Based off of what we know about the Puritans, hysteria, McCarthyism, and the witch craft trials, make two predictions on what you will see in The Crucible. Remember, these predictions might not necessarily be true in the story! You are making your best guess based on what you know.

27 Warm up 26 Answer the following questions, using your book if you need to. As the play begins, why has Reverend Parris sent for a doctor? What does the doctor say back? What does Reverend Parris question Abigail about? What is Parris’ main concern? What/who did Parris see in the woods the night before?

37 Warm up 37 Write down the following words and definitions Irony- contrast between appearance and reality- usually one in which is the opposite from what it seems Situational irony- the contrast between what a reader or character expects and what actually happens Dramatic irony- the reader knows something that the character does not know.

38 Warm up 36 A foil character is one that provides a striking contrast to another character to help call attention to the traits possessed by both. Which character would you choose as your foil character from The Crucible? Explain why with a specific example. What have they done that makes their character have a striking contrast to you?

39 Warm up 38 Write down this term, definition and example. Metaphor- a comparison of two things that identifies one thing as being another unrelated item in order to highlight/show similarities. – Ex- Ms. Stermer is a bear.

40 Warm up 39 Write down the following terms and definitions: Static character- A character whose personality does not change throughout the course of the plot. Dynamic character- someone who undergoes an important, internal change because of the action in the plot.

41 Warm up 40 Look over your Crucible study guide. Write down the question and answer that you think you will have the most trouble with.

42 Warm up 41 How did the test go? What would you do differently next time to prepare? What could I do differently next time to better prepare you? Are there any review games that other teachers do that work well for you? If so, please explain the game here.

43 Warm up 42 What was the best part of your 3 day weekend? 3 sentence minimum

44 Warm up 43 Write three sentences about your favorite food using three different vocabulary words.

45 Warm up 44 Look over your vocabulary words from this unit. Write down the three words you think you will have the most trouble with. Next to each word either draw a picture OR write a clue that will help you remember the word. When you are done with this warm up, hand in warm ups 37-44 and vocabulary homework.
