3 Religious Education Themes from ‘Here I Am’ Beginnings Friends Preparations Books Meals Good and Evil Messengers/ Witnesses Change Treasures Reading Poetry Plays Instructions Information texts Recounts Explanation texts Instructions Stories and poems with a familiar settings. Traditional stories. Different stories by the same author. Funny poems, riddles and tongue twisters.

4 Writing Own writing for stories, poems and non-fiction texts. Producing well presented work with neat cursive handwriting. Use capital letters, full stops, commas, exclamation marks and question marks. Produce neat, cursive handwriting Put a beginning middle and end in a story. Mathematics Counting and properties of number. Understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Using money, the clock, shape, space and measures. Solving simple problems. Spellings and Phonics Daily phonics session- recognising patterns such as sh, th, wh and vowel sounds. Weekly spellings – follow ‘look, say, cover, write, check.

8 SATs Year 2 Your child will undertake the following assessments: A reading task A reading comprehension 2 writing tasks A spelling test A maths task A maths test You can help your child by continuing to ensure that homework and spellings sent home are completed and by reading a range of texts with your child.

9 Ways to help at home encourage reading every night and listen as often as you can, take your child to the library. help your child to learn their weekly spellings – perhaps three a day building up over the week. encourage conversation with explanations, descriptions and information using well constructed sentences, use of ‘how?’, ‘why?’ use practical opportunities to count in 2s, 5s and 10s, beginning to learn x tables. Count money and change it up to £1, tell the time up to quarters. Play dominoes and simple games.
