5 3. Fishing Louisiana is one of the leading states in commercial fishing and the leading state in shrimp production. Other important fish products include catfish, crawfish, menhaden and oysters. 1/3 of all the fish caught in the U.S. comes from Louisiana.

6 4. Chemical Shipments Louisiana refines crops, minerals, and natural resources such as crude oil to create other goods. These goods are then shipped throughout the country and world. For example: oil refineries collect crude oil (unprocessed oil) from the ground. Chemical plants in Louisiana process the crude oil into oil that can be used, such as gasoline, petroleum gas for making plastic, etc.
