2 Computer Software What is permitted?

3 Computer Software Permissible Uses Software program copied to non-networked hard drive. Single archival copy. Networking, if site license has been obtained.

4 Computer Software What is not permitted? NO

5 Computer Software Prohibited Uses Software program may be loaded into memory onto only 1 computer @ a time. Only legally purchased software allowed. No personal computers. NO

6 Music Copies What is permitted?

7 Music Permissible Uses for copies Copyright notice must appear on printed copy. Emergency copies allowed, provided purchased replacement copies will be substituted in due course. Multiple excerpt copies – limited to 1 per student no more than 10% of an entire work.

8 Music Additional Permissible Uses A single copy of an entire performable unit that is out of print or unavailable may be made. Purchased music may be edited or simplified, as long as the character is not altered or lyrics changed or added.

9 Music Recordings What is permitted?

10 Music Permissible Uses for recording of music Single copies of student musical performances for evaluation or rehearsal purposes may be used & saved. Single copy of a sound recording for the purpose of constructing aural exercises or examination. The sound recording must be related to the current lesson.

11 Music Prohibited Uses (for copies & recordings) No copies to substitute for available legal purchase. Archival copy – not allowed. NO

13 Printed Materials Permissible Duplication of Copies Single Copies A chapter from a book An article from a periodical or newspaper A short story, essay, or poem A chart, graph, diagram, cartoon, drawing or picture from a book, periodical, or newspaper

14 Printed Materials Permissible Duplication of Copies Multiple Copies – no more than 1 copy per pupil for classroom use of the following if initiated by the teacher: Complete poem of less than 250 words & on no more than 2 pages Excerpt of less than 250 words from a longer poem Up to 10% or 2 pages, whichever is less, of a picture book A story, essay, or article of less than 2,500 words 1 illustration per book or periodical issue

15 Additional Multiple Copy Permissible Uses Up to 10% or 1,000 words, whichever is less, of a play, novel, or letter Current news articles from newspapers & magazines Copying must be done for only one course Copy no more than 3 items from the same periodical volume during one class term

17 Printed Copies No Copies to create, replace or substitute for anthologies “consumable” works by direction for a higher authority same item from year to year multiple copies more than 9 times in one term More than an entire article or 2 excerpts from the same author’s work in a term No modifications of any copyrighted image NO

19 Videotape / DVD Permissible Uses Recorded & acquired in a lawful manner according to board policy. Attendance - face-to-face teaching situation. Related to the current lesson. Requested recordings cannot be made in anticipation of later use. Shown to students no more than 2 times within 10 school days of the broadcast date. Teacher evaluation of recordings = 1 st 10 consecutive school days + 35 additional days. Off-air video/DVDs recorded at home by classroom teachers must adhere to the above statement.

23 Multimedia Guidelines Permissible Uses   Notice contains copyrighted material   Citation page in proper format   Film, video, DVD or TV – up to 10% or 3 minutes, whichever is less   Prose, poetry, & drama, up to 10% or 1000 words, whichever is less   Entire poem of 250 words   No more than 3 poems from 1 poet   No more than 5 poems by different poets from a single anthology

24 Multimedia Guidelines Additional Permissible Uses For music – 10%, but no more than 30 seconds of music & lyrics from a single musical work Illustrations – no more than 5 by an artist or photographer. No more than 10% or 15 images from a single collected work Computer databases or spreadsheets – 10% or 2,500 fields or cells, whichever is less

25 Multimedia Guidelines Permissible Uses Support of direct instruction Students may keep the presentation they create forever. Teachers may keep multimedia presentations created by students or themselves for a class for a 2- year period.

26 Multimedia Guidelines What is not permitted? Showing student-created presentations in a public performance setting Allowing network access to presentations other than the class for which it was created Multiple copies of a student-created presentations. NO
