Grace Fellowship Church www.GraceDoctrine.org Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Sunday, May 17, 2009

Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth: and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hades; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the Church (body of Christ); the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

1 John 5:12 Eternal Life

“Has the Son” ECHO - “to have and to hold”. Extending from Past Present Tense which means an action begun in the past continues in the present.

The Indwelling of Christ is one of the forty things we received at the moment of Salvation. John 14:20; 17:22-23, 26; Rom 8:10; Gal 2:20; Col 1:27; 1 John 2:24

Col 1:27, “To whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Gal 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

“Has this life” ECHO - Stative Customary Present, representing a condition which perpetually exists.

It is the believer’s perpetual existence, our eternal life and by association our eternal security.

“He who has the Son has this (eternal) life”. 2 Cor 13:4-6

This is the basis for all security in life; our union with Christ which provides eternal security as well as temporal security.

“Son of God” is one of three Royal Patents of Jesus Christ:

“Son of God” is one of three Royal Patents of Jesus Christ: 1) The Son of God; the royalty of His deity, He is eternal and infinite God.

“Son of God” is one of three Royal Patents of Jesus Christ: 2) The Son of Man; the royalty of His humanity as the son of David. Virgin Birth, Incarnation and First Advent.

“Son of God” is one of three Royal Patents of Jesus Christ: 3) The King of kings and Lord of lords; the royalty of His hypostatic union, His strategic victory at the Cross.

“King of kings” gives Christ precedence over human rulers; “Lord of lords” gives Christ precedence over angelic rulers. Rev 19:16

“Does not have this life.” The unbeliever who is without eternal life and whose name will be blotted out of the Book of life. Phil 4:3; Rev 21:27; Psa 69:28; Rev 3:5; 20:12-15 and Rev 13:8; 17:8

1 John 5:12, “He who has the Son has this (eternal) life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have this (eternal) life.”

There is no gray area with God. You either have eternal life and eternal security or you do not.

Whosoever believes, will have eternal life. Isa 28:16; John 3:14-18, 36; 6:35, 47; 11:25; 12:44- 46; Acts 10:43; 16:31; 1 Peter 2:6; 1 John 5:5, 10

John 11:25, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?””

1 Tim 1:16-17, “Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

“Free Grace” follows Eph 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Any time you add anything to salvation and the completed work of Jesus Christ, you are attacking the sovereignty, righteousness, justice and love of God. You are attacking the integrity of God. Rom 3:21-30; 1 Thes 4:14; 1 John 2:2; 4:10.

1 Thes 4:14, “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.”

Lewis Sperry Chafer, “The gospel message is telling something about Christ and His finished work.”

Grace Offering 2 Cor 9:6-15
