2 Imagine this… It’s your birthday and your parents have a huge box on the table for you.. As you start to rip the wrapping paper off and open the box, you notice a bunch of different boxes inside Do you just look at the boxes and that’s it? NO! You open and unpack each box to see what is inside!

3 Unpacking the Unit Just like a Birthday Present We are going to “unpack” the unit to see what’s inside.

4 Activity You are going to create a Unit Poster with the following information. I will show you where to look for some of the information you’ll need for your poster. You’ll need to hunt for the rest

5 Unpacking the Unit Unpacking Springboard! Today you will be working with a group to “unpack” a Springboard Unit. Then, you will present this unit to your classmates. You will create a poster that includes: Name of the unit The Essential Questions One goal that you are looking forward to accomplishing Summarize the Unit Overview in your own words One vocabulary word that you already know (put in blue- write meaning of word) One vocabulary word that you want to learn more about (put in red) List the genre(s) you’ll be focusing on this unit (Learning Focus) Name four story elements that all narratives or stories have in common What can you read independently to help you with this unit? The name of the two embedded assessments – Include page numbers One WOW from the unit – A wow is something that you, as a group, think will be cool, fun, interesting, etc. In your presentation, be sure to tell WHY you chose it. One WHOA from the unit. – A whoa is something that concerns you, something you think will be difficult, challenging, etc. In your presentation, you will have to tell WHY you chose it. The major texts that you will be reading A visual that you feel represents the unit concept Your poster should be colorful, creative and insightful. Everyone MUST contribute something to the poster and everyone MUST present something.
