3 The Plan Step 1 : Understand Your Topic Step 2: Create a Search Plan Step 3: Decide on The Types and Formats of Information You Need Step 4: Create Search Statements Step 5: Locate and Obtain The Information Step 6: Evaluate The Information/Resources

4 Apply It! You are teaching 2 nd grade and must teach to the following curriculum standard: The student will demonstrate an understanding of daily and seasonal weather conditions. You decide to plan a lesson on hurricanes.

5 Step 1: Understand Your Topic Review your curriculum standards (what do you need to teach?) What do you already know about hurricanes? Look at some general references to gain a better understanding of the topic (dictionary, encyclopedia, etc.)

6 Apply It! Look up hurricanes in the information resource at your table. Jot down facts to help you develop your topic.

7 Step 2: Create A Search Plan Identify keywords  Keywords should describe info you are seeking as well as any relationships between the keywords Develop at least 2 concepts or related ideas about your topic

8 Apply It! Using the search strategy given to you, develop some concepts

13 Step 5: Locate and Obtain The Info Identify the type of reference (book, video, journal, Internet, etc.) Write down the name, location, and all other pertinent data about the resource
