In your journal, respond to the following prompts:  What were some of the major differences Scout saw between Calpurnia’s church and her own?  Explain what Calpurnia told Jem and Scout about the “double life” she lives.  What is the significance of Calpurnia’s explanation in regards to establishing the context of the social expectations of the time period? Today you’ll need your novel, journal, vocab out on desk, and a writing utensil. Entry Task 3/19

2  Choose a significant passage (at least 1-2 pages long) that you think connects to the idea that coming of age requires recognizing different perspectives.  Track details that show that Jem and Scout are gaining new perspectives, and coming to a deeper or different understanding of life.  Be sure to track/identify specific literary elements (plot, setting, character, symbolism, irony, figurative language, tone, etc). Connect

3  Which passage would be the best choice?  What literary element did you think was most significant?  How does that literary element contribute to the theme “coming of age involves recognizing different perspectives”? Share out what your group found, then as a class…

4  Thesis (class created)  Supporting claim 1  Supporting claim 2 Now with your table groups (everyone writes in his/her journal)
