4 In 2003 NDFU began to look into the Chicago Climate Exchange’s Soils Offsets Program. NDFU approved as an Aggregator for the CCX in May 2006. July 2006, NDFU partnered with NFU to create the National Farmers Union Carbon Credit Program. As of December, 2007 NDFU was the largest agricultural soils aggregator in the US for the CCX.

5 As of September 1, 2008 3,427 Farms and Ranches For 4,587,782 acres were enrolled in the Farmers Union Carbon Credit Program

6 In 2008, NDFU wrote over $2,500,000.00 in Carbon Credit checks to 1,045 producers in 12 states. In the summer of 2008, NDFU sent over $5,900,000.00 to 2,300 producers in 26 states.

7  Minimum 5 year commitment to continuous no-till or forage production.  0.2- 0.6 ton/ per acre/ per year.

8  Minimum 5 year commitment to maintaining grass stand.  0.4-1.0 ton/ per acre/ per year.

9  Minimum 5 year commitment to prescribed grazing system.  0.12-0.27 ton/ per acre/ per year (improved management.)  0.16-0.52 ton/ per acre/ per year (previously degraded.)
