1 Medical Terminology When writing down prognosis medical staff have to have a common language Or your medical file would read as: patient complaint was “tum-tum hurt” or “hard stuff was removed from stomach” By using Latin prefixes, roots and suffixes the above conditions can be written in simple terms: dysgastro, gastroplasty

2 Medical Terminology There are some rules though to using medical terminology Prefixes and roots are put together with little alteration When adding a suffix an O can be added to the root to make the word easier to pronounce Add an O only when the suffix starts with a consonant

3 Medical Terminology Using the medical language WS come up with terms for the following: Ear pain Muscle Harding Swelling of the nose Pain between the ribs Study of nerves
