1  Main partners: Institution in Norway: -Department of Administration and Organization Theory, University of Bergen, Norway Institution outside Norway: - North South University - Tribhuvan University, Nepal - University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka  The overall objective: To provide high quality research based education in governance, public administration and public policy in such areas as micro-credit, health, education, women empowerment and conscientization, and local democracy.

2  Results/Major output - Graduation of first cohort of 22 students (13 male, 9 female) from North South University. They graduated in July, 2010 and received formal diplomas in convocation ceremony on 12 April, 2011. - 20 students of second cohort successfully completed their course work and submitted their theses. They will be formally graduated in January, 2012. - Number of seminars conducted: National seminar- 10, International seminar- 9 - Current Gender Distribution: Year Male Female Total 2008(1 st cohort) 13(59%) 9(41%) 22 2009(2 nd cohort) 13(65%) 7(35%) 20 2010(3 rd cohort) 13(54%) 11(46%) 24

3 - Students of third cohort successfully completed 6 courses and started their Research Design Seminar course. - MPPG program has its own resource center, a female common room and a very well furnished conference room. - Surveys on i) “Citizen Charter Implementation” was conducted in some selected municipalities in Bangladesh and Nepal. ii) “Trust Survey” was conducted in four Districts in Bangladesh namely Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Shathkhira.  Other outputs: - China Studies Centre (CSC) is formed with the collaboration of MPPG program to do research on different governance and policy issues of China. Outputs (publication, exchange of scholars, and academic/administrative inputs) of this project will definitely benefit the MPPG program.

4 - Faculty and course evaluations are completed with new software and online process. - A dedicated program website was developed - (www.mppg-nsu.org).www.mppg-nsu.org  Two bi-annual newsletters are published in both electronic and printed version in every year. (http://www.mppg-nsu.org/research-a-publications.html)http://www.mppg-nsu.org/research-a-publications.html  Publishing of a book titled “Multilevel Governance and Public Policy in Bangladesh”. It would become a part of the curricula of the MPPG program. Two chapters are written on the basis of i) “Citizen Charter Implementation” ii) “Trust Survey” surveys.  Major contribution:  To attract more students from civil service and number of applicants is increasing each year.  More collaboration with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the faculty members are invited to several occasions by GoB to discuss policy and governance issues.
