Pre-write Chose a bubble map/web or outline to help- determine the type of writing that is needed. Decide on the topics and purposes of what your body paragraphs will be about. Build a thesis statement that tells what your paper will be about (main topics/claims). Write an appropriate Hook to grab the readers attention. Create a final thought that links back to your thesis and hook.

Edit and Revise Proofread your rough draft looking for the following: Topic sentences: Is each paragraph’s first sentence general and introduce what the paragraph is about? Transition Words: Does each paragraph have flow and gel together with the next paragraph. Sentence Variation: Paragraphs should have a variety of complex, compound and simple sentences. Paragraph Order: Does the flow of your paragraphs make sense? Are your paragraphs logical?

Edit and Revise Proofread your rough draft looking for the following:
Verb Tense: Check your paper for verb tense i.e. He comes into the room and he pulled his gun. Imagery: Add and expand sensory details and verbs to bring the reader into your writing. Word Choice: Have your words created a tone that benefits the purpose of the writing? Is it formal or casual? Is it specific enough? Hook: Does your hook grab the reader into your topic and keep their attention?

Edit and Revise Proofread your rough draft looking for the following:
Thesis: Is your thesis clear? Does it sum up what your paper is about? Final Thought/Conclusion: Does your last sentence leave the reader with a lasting impression and connect back to your thesis? Indention, spelling and punctuation: Are there any grammar errors? Did you look up unfamiliar words in a dictionary? Title: Write a catchy title. Bottom Line: eliminate what does not belong, rearrange what is misplaced and spice up what is boring.

Once you have completed your pre-write, create a rough draft based on that information. Prompt: You are an astronaut on a peaceful, exploratory mission to Planet Q. As a representative from Earth, you are to present three gifts from our planet. What items will you take? Write an essay to the sponsors of your mission explaining why you think these will make excellent tokens.
