Key Changes Children will need to be able to demonstrate that they know, understand and can apply their knowledge of all elements of the curriculum for their age group in order to meet the expected standard. Children in Year 2 will sit tests in reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG) and in mathematics. There will be no writing test as writing is assessed by teacher assessment throughout the year. Results for each child will be a teacher assessment informed by test results, teacher knowledge and information gathered throughout the year. Caldecote Primary School

Tests We are going to do our tests during May. Children will not be told that they are ‘tests’ but will be encouraged to do their best. Dates and times of test will not be given out as they will be flexible. Caldecote Primary School

Reporting To Parents You will be told if your child is working towards, working at or working at greater depth for reading, writing, maths and science. Individual test scores will not be reported. Caldecote Primary School

What Can You Do To Support? Read daily with your child – focus on comprehension to check their understanding. Support your child with ‘secretarial skills’ when doing weekly spellings (handwriting, spelling, sentence construction). When reading, identify different word types. For example, nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. Complete weekly homework. Go over basic maths skills, such as number bonds and times table facts. Recognise and discuss maths in real-life, everyday situations. Caldecote Primary School

What Can You Do To Support? There is no need to talk to your child about the tests. We are keeping them ‘low key’ to avoid undue stress and pressure. This term is long and children will be working hard during the school day, so they will need plenty of sleep, rest and opportunities to play and have fun. Caldecote Primary School
