2 TYPES OF HOUSES Houses can be: 1 Detached 2 Semi-detached 3 Terraced
4 Block of flats 5 Cottage

3 DETACHED AND SEMI-DETACHED
1 A detached house is separated from other buildings. It generally has a large garden and a garage. It’s very expensive, but it is garanteed privacy. 2 A semi-detached house generally has two storeys, a front and a back garden. The kitchen,the living and the dining room are downstairs,bedrooms and the bathroom are upstairs

5 TERRACED HOUSES Terraced houses are also very common.
They are rows of houses all joined together in a street. Lots of families live in terraced houses. They have a small front garden

6 FLATS But nowadays the most common type of house is the flat.
Lots of families live in flats because they aren’t expensive. Flats are grouped in a building called block of flats, that is situated in big towns

7 Cottages A cottage is a small house in the countryside.
Its roof can be made in straw

8 Let’s go into a modern house! Modern ways to divide the space
In a modern house there are three areas: The living area The kitchen The sleeping area

9 The living area In this area with multiple purposes you can stay
during the day, have a break or receive guests. Usually in this area there are a sofà,two armchairs and a TV, but also you can find shelves with books.

10 The kitchen The kitchen is a space that fulfills your needs.
It’s the area where we cook and eat. A table, some chairs and a long piece of furniture can take the space. This room in the picture is quite small and here we eat informal meals

11 The sleeping area In the sleeping area you sleep during the night.
In this room there are one or two beds and a wardrobe.

12 The bathroom In this room you get washed. A modern bathroom has
a WC,a washbasin and a shower

13 The house 100 years ago 100 years ago the middle class families lived in buildings of two or three floors. In a flat there was the division of the space into rooms. There was a large entrance with a corridor, A long narrow passage with doors along it leading to rooms: The kitchen The dining room The living room

14 The kitchen The kitchen had a table in the centre used as plan of work,too.

15 The dining room The dining room had dark wood furniture and a table
in the center for important lunches.There was a sideboard that showed the important service of dishes and cups

16 The living room In the living room there was a sofa with
armchairs in velvet or damask.In this room guests were received. There was a writing table and a piece of furniture with the gramophone
