Symptoms Joints Loose, and weak More likely to dislocate Pain Move beyond normal limits. Skin Soft, fragile, flexible skin Heals slowly from a wound Basic Symptoms of EDS

Classical EDS Hypermobility EDS Vascular EDS Kyphoscoliosis EDS Arthrochalasia EDS Dermatosparaxis EDS The Major Types of EDS

Symptoms: Skin hyperextensibility (stretchy skin) Joint hypermobility Easily bruised skin Sensitive tissue Inherited through autosomal dominance Classical EDS Causes: Atrophic scars Weak joints Joints that are more prone to damage, such as a sprain or a dislocation Can cause pes planus, or flatfoot Hematomas and cysts due to scarring Delayed muscle and motor development

Basics Hypermobility EDS is similar to Classical EDS except for one factor, the joint hypermobility In hypermobility EDS, the joint hypermobility is the most dominant symptom This symptom lead to both large and small joints Ex: fingers, toes, knees, and elbows Dislocation of joints like the shoulder, and platella Chronic pain and joints and limbs is common Its inherited through autosomal dominance just like Classical EDS Hypermobility EDS

Known as the most serious type of EDS It’s known like this because at any given moment, there is a possibility of an arterial or an organ rupture Symptoms: Thin skin, allowing veins to be seen Large eyes, thin nose, lobeless ears, and thin hair Minor trauma can lead to extensive bruising Spontaneous arterial rupture Usually happens in third or fourth decade of ones life Most common cause of sudden death Also inherited in an autosomal dominant manner Vascular EDS

Kyphoscoliosis EDS Muscle Hyptonia, or weak mucsle tone Can lead to delayed development of gross motor skills Birth with progressive scoliosis Fragile tissue Autosomal recessive inheritance Arthrochalasia EDS Can cause hip dislocation Severe joint hypermobility Autosomal recessive inheritance Dermatosparaxis EDS Fragile skin and excessive bruising Skin is soft a dough-like Autosomal recessive inhertitance Other types of EDS Kyphoscoliosis EDS

Treatment varies on the type of EDS one has Regular check-ups are advised Stay away from activities that lock your joints Try not to slip or fall Regular eye check-ups also advised Sun exposure can cause premature aging Exercise and therapy to strengthen joints Vitamin C may or may not help relieve symptoms, ask a doctor before taking supplements Treatment for EDS
