6. Materials You will be given the following materials. 50 popsicle sticks 1 piece of Wire Glue sticks (1) 1 m String 1 paper clip Small piece of cloth 3 rubber bands 5 double A batteries

7. Rules of the Competition Your team is your table partner and you may only build in class! Nothing leaves this room. Your entire treb must fit within 1 floor tile in room 137. Your team with have 5 chances (within 5 minutes) to hit a target with a glass marble. The target will be placed 3 m away from your treb. The target will be a small can centered on a larger piece of paper. We will use carbon paper to determine your distance from the bulls-eye. You may “aim” you treb by moving within the confines of one floor tile. Trebuchets must be built to code in order to be tested on test day.

Scoring Tier 1: (3 m distance) – Hole shot 12/10 – Glancing blow 10.5/10 – All else, who hit paper, ranked by distance Tier 2: (1.5 m Distance) – Hole shot- shares score immediately below tier 1 – Glancing blow – share score that is 0.5 pts below tier 2 hole shot. – All else who hit paper ranked by distance Tier 3: – Not hitting paper in either case and will all share score immediately below tier 2.

10. A little Something Special You and your partner are to find the initial velocity of your projectile (remember the video analysis lab?). On testing day you must have a separate piece of paper showing me how you found this velocity (graph(s), math etc.). Using this velocity and the fact that your trebuchet launches the projectile at and angle of 30 degrees, how far does your projectile travel? (Again show me how you solved this problem.) This work will count as a quiz grade, separate from your grade for the Physics Olympics.
