Complete the Bellringer for today in your Unit Packet!

Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides MAFS.8.EE.3.7: Solve linear equations in one variable. Solve linear equations with rational number coefficients, including equations whose solutions require expanding expressions using the distributive property and collecting like terms

Today’s Goals and Agenda By the end of class today I will: I will be able to solve equations that have variables on both sides of the equal sign. I plan to do this by: ▪ I Do: Equations with Variables on Both Sides Notes ▪ We Do: White Boards Practice ▪ You Do: Variables on Both Sides Scavenger Hunt

Did You Read Your Notes? What does the “D” stand for in DCI? What does the “C” stand for in DCI? What does the “I” stand for in DCI? When we do inverse operations, what order do we do them in?

Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides When Solving equations with variables on both sides… Remember: DCI! Distribute first, then when we combine our like terms we need to get the variables on one side of the equation. Example : 3x + 2 = 4x – 1 -3 x -3 x 2 = x-1 +1 +1 3 = x

Solve: 3x + 2 = 4x - 1 - 3x - 3x 2 = x - 1 + 1 + 1 3 = x

Solve 8y - 9 = -3y + 2 + 3y + 3y 11y – 9 = 2 + 9 + 9 11y = 11 11 11 y = 1

1.-3 2. -1/3 3.1/3 4.3 Solve: 3 - 4x = 18 + x

Challenge! -8(x + 1) + 3(x - 2) = -3x + 2 1.-8 2.-2 3.2 4.8

Scavenger Hunt Directions 1. Start with ANY problem, record the letter of the problem on your paper and then solve the problem! 2. Record your answer. 3. Look for the sign with the answer. This sign will be the next problem you need to answer. 4. Before you begin the next problem, remember to record the letter. You must show your work neatly!!!!

Complete the Home Learning Problems in your Packet!

Read the Bellringer in your Packet and Get Ready for the Video

One Solution, No Solution, Infinitely Many Solutions MAFS.8.EE.3.7: Give examples of linear equations in one variable with one solution, infinitely many solutions, or no solutions. Show which of these possibilities is the case by successively transforming the given equation into simpler forms.

Today’s Goals and Agenda By the end of class today I will: I will be able to identify if an equation has one solution, no solution, or infinite solutions I plan to do this by: ▪ I Do: Solutions Notes in your Unit Packet- Khan Academy Video- Done ▪ We Do: White Board Practice ▪ You Do: Equations Walk around
