1 Elements of A Plot And The Plot Diagram

2 Plot (definition) Plot is the organized pattern or sequence of events that make up a story Every plot is made up of a series of related events

7-Resolution/ Conclusion 8-Moral 1-Antecedent Action 2-Exposition 3-Inciting Incident

5 1. Antecedent Action Before the story begins, there is a “Back Story”
This is needed by the audience to understand reasons for future events This is alluded to and sometimes explained in The Exposition

6 2. Exposition Usually near the beginning of any story
Characters are introduced Setting is described Antecedent Action is communicated Main Conflict (Inciting Incident) is presented

7 3. Inciting Incident This usually occurs at the end of The Exposition
This is the event that causes the Protagonist to set goal(s) and leads to all future events in the plot

8 4. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s) A building of interest or suspense occurs

9 Middle of Plot 5. Climax 5

10 5. Climax This is the turning point of the story
Usually the main character faces the main conflict The main character will change in some way

11 Plot Ends 6. Denouement/ Falling Action 7. Resolution/ Conclusion
