2 AIMS To share information about the curriculum and assessment Know how we will be teaching Maths, English and the other subjects Have an overview of topics being taught this year To know ‘extras’ for your Year groups

3 WHAT IS THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM? Set of subjects and standards that ensure children across the country all learn the same things to the same standard. KS1 MathsHistory EnglishGeography ScienceArt ComputingDesign and Technology PEincluding cooking Music KS2 The above plus languages www.gov.uk

4 WHY HAS THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM CHANGED? - More challenging -Raise standards -Bring in line with children’s learning in other countues -Focus on core skills – Reading, Writing, Computing and Maths

5 ASSESSING THE NEW CURRICULUM In your books you have the expectations for the year group. At the end of the year (and at points during the year) the children will be judged against these You will be told if your child is meeting the expected end of year standards, working towards meeting them or working at a greater depth within the standards It is expected that the majority of children will be meeting the standards Mastery

6 MATHS Year 1 Counting up to 100 Know their number bonds t0 20 Year 3 Counting up to 1000 Know their 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times tables and division facts

7 ENGLISH - WRITING Year 1 Begin to join their handwriting Write longer pieces of writing Use full stops and capital letters Use adjectives Year 3 Join handwriting, and write quickly Using conjunctions Using correct punctuation Spelling SPAG

8 ENGLISH - READING Can not stress the importance of reading Year 2 – assessment Reading 90 words per minute, fluently, blending if needed but quickly Year 6 – assessment Reading fluently, with correct intonation naturally that shows understanding

9 FOUNDATION SUBJECTS PE – Indoor and Outdoor PE (outdoor PE kit) Year 3 – Royal Ballet, swimming Computing – Coding Specialist Art and Music teachers, Year 3 French teacher Additionally RE and PSHCE Rest through IPC – strong emphasis on History
