2 Role of the High School Captain The most important factor in the development of successful programs lies in the quality of leadership provided. We will also pay particular attention to the behaviors a good leader must engage in at practice as well as outside the athletic setting. 3 Teamwork Teamwork is defined by the ability to work together to accomplish common goals. Members of the Captain’s Advisory Team (CAT) will conduct discussions and exercises that explore the essential elements of teamwork and how captains can encourage their teams to function at higher levels. 4 Leadership, Sportsmanship and Building Championship Teams Every participant plays a role in his or her team’s success. We will conduct a session that focuses on raising awareness, group dynamics, key attitudes, and the positive and negative motivating factors of team-building. 7 Who can join CAT Any student-athlete that wishes to captain a team at Mountain View High School must be a member of CAT. 9 Schedule for CAT CAT will meet the last Tuesday of each month during lunch, with meetings to be held in the Lecture Hall. Pizza will be provided for the participants. A one day workshop will take place each summer, to be held in July as students prepare to return to school. This will occur on a Saturday and all meals will be provided. This will be mandatory for CAT participants and will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Coaches are encouraged to attend and participate on this day as well as those during the school year.
