3. Monday – Tuesday, 5/23 - 24 First Meeting with Dong on Monday
Meeting with Dr. Shah and Dong on Tuesday. Outcome: Chose not to do tracking. Dr. Shah recommended practicing using Keras/TensorFlow and starting to implement object detection using the LM dataset.
Read Module 1 of course notes for Stanford’s cs231n class on computer vision
Completed a NN tutorial using the MNIST dataset.

4. Wednesday, 5/25 Worked on this PP presentation
Literature review of object detection in wide area surveillance
Cleared up a hardware concern with Yang Zheng concerning the computing cluster.
Downloaded dataset from SDMS. Problem: Data was not in the proper format, missing ground-truth labels, MATLAB required
ed Sarfaraz Hussein and Dong to get clarification on how to obtain dataset and which ones were used (CLIF 2007, CLIF 2006, WPAFB 2009, LAIR)

5. Wednesday, 5/25
Opened an account with Steve in IT to be able to access computing cluster, wanted to install MATLAB but not enough time
Realized datasets were going to be much larger than expected and ultimately decided to abandon using a Linux VM
Went to Best Buy in evening and bought an external HDD, made preparations to back up everything, and switch to using Linux only

6. Thursday, 5/26
Heard back from Sarfaraz that he had used WPAFB 2009 and to get in touch with Aidean. Contacted SDMS to look into getting the full dataset.
Spent the morning and afternoon installing Linux, MATLAB, downloading the WPAFB 2009 dataset, which requires substantial formatting to be usable
Got in touch with Aidean who suggested contacting Thomas Castelli and Oliver
Reinstalled Theano, Tensorflow, Keras, Python packages…

7. Friday, 5/27
Heard back from Thomas Castelli, who indicated he had left a hard drive with the PVLabs and WPAFB data with Tonya
Contacted Tonya: She and Steve Dick are still looking for it…
