5 Parts of the Map Title – tells the subject and date of the map Legend – tells what symbols and colors mean i.e. =mountains, = Chili’s

Scale – indicates distances (think size) – i.e. 1”=25 mi Directional Indicator – compass – Cardinal directions – main points - n,s,e,w – Intermediate directions – in between main points - ne, sw NE

Cartographer – mapmaker’s name – If you want credit for your map, put your name on it!! – Cart – map – Grapher – one who writes or draws – Inter – between or among – Mediate - middle

Review Activity 1 neighbor will say a part of the map. The partner will explain what that part includes. The explainer then becomes the namer, and names a part of the map for the other partner to describe. Repeat until all 5 parts have been discussed. Extra time? Continue to label or study North America map
