Gaining first hand experience of employment through work placement. Developing your skills in applying for work or further courses and interview techniques.

8 Week 1 – Getting Started MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursday Friday Week 1 AM Induction This is where we get to know you and you get to know us. Team Activity Developing Personal Confidence (cont.): Identify practical steps you can take to improve your confidence. Dealing With Problems: Create ideas, identify a solution and try it out. Has the problem been solved? Understanding Assertive Behaviour: Identify the benefits of assertive behaviour and practice assertion English/Maths Workshop Time to develop your English or maths skills Week 1 PM Developing Personal Confidence: Identify your achievements and strengths. Assess your confidence levels. Dealing With Problems: Start to understand the six steps to solving problems. What are the effects of problems? Understanding Assertive Behaviour: Look at different types of behaviours and their impact on you and others. Complete C&G Award and Team Working Activity: Complete you first qualification. English/Maths Workshop Time to develop your English or maths skills

9 Weeks 2 and 3 – Developing Core Skills In centre, developing your skills and understanding in: English and maths Health and wellbeing Communication skills Equality and diversity Democracy and society The wider world and planning a holiday Preparing for your placement

10 Week 4 – Options Week Choose activities that match your interests and needs. These could include: Gaining a qualification in IT Look at the world of work in sectors like warehousing, retail or childcare Short e-learning courses in subjects that interest you Participating in external and outdoor activities

11 Week 5 – Work Placement Work with your EEA to choose a placement that is relevant for you Gain valuable, real-life experience of work Obtain a work-place reference

12 Week 6 – Achieving Results MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursday Friday Week 6 AM Reflections on Work Placement Talk about how it went, what you learned and if this has affected your goals. Searching for a Job (cont.): Learn how to find out about job and apprenticeship vacancies. Applying for a Job (cont.): Develop a professional CV. Learn how to write an effective cover letter. Interview Skills (cont.): Take part in a ‘mock’ interview and review your performance. Moving On (cont.) Week 6 PM Searching for a Job: Identify your requirements and skills. Understand how to match these to job roles. Applying for a Job: Look at different ways to apply for jobs and information needed. Complete different types of applications. Interview Skills: Find out how to prepare effectively for interviews. Learn how to present yourself effectively. Moving On Individual study time Time for 1 to 1s Completion of personal progression plans. Celebration Time! Time for group to reflect on the achievements of the last few weeks.

13 What do these sessions involve? Group sessions, working as a team and individually. Activities linked to finding the right placement and helping you apply for jobs, apprenticeships or other courses. Online courses to develop your skills and confidence in maths and English. Taking time outside the centre to visit employers, complete activities and work placements. Time with your YPC to give you individual support.
